Woman who misused police contact system receives criminal behaviour order.
On January 7, Susan Hibbs of Penuwch, following her repeated use of the 999 and 101 telephone system to make false reports about a man, was sentenced in Aberystwyth Magistrates Court.
In December Hibbs pleaded guilty to harassment a man in Penuwch between 19 May and 28 June last year. The persistent reports via the 101 and 999 system, included several allegations which the Neighbourhood Policing and Prevention Team officers were able to establish the reports were false. Hibbs was handed a community order which included a rehabilitation activity, fined £100, ordered to pay £100 in compensation to the victim and made subject to a restraining order. She was also handed a criminal behaviour order for her persistent misuse of public communication network.
Local Neighbourhood Policing and Prevention Officer, PC Liz Jenkins of Lampeter Police station said: "As the Neighbourhood Policing and Prevention Team, our role is to support our communities and work together to solve issues. "The behaviour in this case was having a negative effect on the community, and the persistent false calls were very demanding on our local resources and prevented officers from being out and about in the community. "I hope this shows our communities that we will take robust action against anyone who seeks to misuse the 999 and 101 service and make false allegations, which in turn take us away from being able to deal with genuine calls for service."
